Knowing the distances you are able to effectively make a clean kill on a bird is imperative to the hunt. Judging the same distances in the field however is another story. Try to train yourself by using your decoys. Place them at random distances and write down your estimate. Measure off the distance and check the results. No decoys? Simply create a cardboard silhouette.
